Grape Hyacinth 'Blue Spike' Muscari armeniacum

Grape Hyacinth 'Blue Spike' Muscari armeniacum
A vigorous bulbous perennial, muscari armeniacum boasts all of the charm of the genus with slightly larger blossoms. Commonly known as the Armenian grape hyacinth, its lush mid-green foliage is comprised of long, linear, strap-shaped leaves, with the outer leaves of each clump arching gracefully. In spring, a single, thick floral stem produces a conical spike of tiny, rotund but bell-shaped blue or white flowers. The Armenian grape hyacinth thrives in moist but well-drained soil in full sun, but needs shelter from frost and excessive wet. An excellent choice for groundcover on banks and slopes, garden edging and in rockeries. Pruning is not necessary but dividing dense clumps during summer dormancy is recommended

The flowers are highly fragrant and this plant is often cultivated to flower at Christmas so it can be given as a gift. Hyacinths are easy plants to grow, well suited for a beginner. They grow up to around 30cm in height with narrow and thick bright green leaves and bell shaped flowers that grow in a spike atop a sturdy stem. The flowers can be various colours including blue, purple, pink or white. They like full sun or partial shade and light, moist soil with good drainage
